Sports247 reports that Sanusi reeled out superlatives in honour of late Zubairu, who was the president of Nigeria Football Referees Association (NFRA) until he passed away in the early hours of Tuesday after a brief illness.

Sanusi further noted that Zubairu, who was also head of the NFF’s refereeing unit and secretary of the federation’s referees committee, worked tirelessly in driving courses and programmes to significantly improve Nigerian match arbiters.

The NFF boss added that Zubairu also worked to enhance the knowledge and assiduity of Nigerian referees, develop the capacity of aspiring ones and incubate new members, while he was dedicated, selfless and highly-focused in his duties.

Sanusi further stated, “We are saddened to confirm the death of Hon. Sani Zubairu, the President of Nigeria Football Referees Association (NFRA) and Head of Refereeing Unit of the NFF. Hon. Zubairu was a very diligent and astute worker.

“Subordinates, colleagues and superiors all loved him for his simplicity and uncommon humility. He served Nigeria meritoriously on the field and in the office, working assiduously to impact knowledge and raise new generations of referees.

“The NFF and Nigeria football will miss him greatly. We pray that God will grant him eternal rest and also grant his immediate family, friends, relations, the NFF family and the NFRA the fortitude to bear the big loss.”
