His commitment to excellence earned him increased responsibilities, eventually leading to his appointment as Head of Sports at Hot FM, Abuja, where he played a key role in shaping sports programming and engaging a broad audience across the Federal Capital Territory.

In recognition of his expertise and growing influence, Obasi was appointed as a Media Aide to the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade. In this role, he has made significant contributions to strategic communications, effectively amplifying key initiatives and strengthening the Commission’s engagement with stakeholders and the general public.

Further demonstrating his versatility and professional competence, Obasi was seconded to Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, where he served as a media officer during their continental campaign. The team emerged as champions of Africa and secured qualification for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup later in the year.

In this capacity, he successfully managed media relations and enhanced the public image of one of Africa’s most successful basketball teams and his contributions, alongside those of the team, earned national recognition, as they were honoured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), along with other commendations, including landed property and cash rewards.

Micheal Obasi’s career trajectory reflects the vast opportunities within Nigeria’s sports industry for young professionals committed to excellence, innovation, and service. His rise to prominence serves as an inspiration to a new generation of sports journalists and media practitioners across the country, with his humility and simple lifestyle offering a model worth emulating.
