AFCON Controversy Has Damaged Its Image!’ Ekong Laments Fallout From Morocco–Senegal Saga

Ekong said the controversy has overshadowed the positives of the tournament and dented the reputation of African football globally.

“The whole situation has taken away from the good work AFCON has done,” he said.

The defender noted that the backlash following the decision has painted the competition in a negative light, raising concerns about its credibility.

“It has given AFCON a negative reputation in world football,” he added.

According to Ekong, more needs to be done by CAF to ensure that such situations are handled better in the future.

“This is not where CAF wants to find itself,” he stated.

The former Udinese player emphasized that maintaining the integrity of the competition is crucial for the growth and global respect of African football.

Ekong concluded by urging CAF to learn from the incident and implement measures that will prevent similar controversies, ensuring that future tournaments are remembered for footballing excellence rather than off-field disputes.
