Wuraola Hussain Selected for World Rugby Women in Rugby Careers Programme

Board member of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, Wuraola Hussain, has been selected as a participant in the prestigious World Rugby Women in Rugby Careers Programme.

In an official communication, World Rugby expressed its delight at her selection, stating that her commitment to developing rugby in Nigeria and her clear career aspirations stood out during the selection process.

The governing body noted that she is now part of a global network of over 250 emerging female leaders and that the programme is designed to strengthen leadership capacity, boost confidence, and expand professional networks within the sport.

As part of the programme, Hussain is expected to participate in a series of seven webinars, beginning on Wednesday, April 8, with sessions focused on programme introduction, personal journey, and goal setting.

Subsequent sessions will cover key areas such as self-awareness and transferable skills on May 6, effective communication and confidence building on June 3, and networking development on July 8, among others.

Her selection is widely regarded as a significant milestone for women’s rugby development in Nigeria.

Hussain has played a pivotal role in promoting the sport, particularly among young girls, and has been instrumental in driving grassroots initiatives aimed at increasing participation.

One of her recent achievements includes overseeing the Rugby Rising programme, which has successfully introduced the sport to close 7,000 girls across the country.

This effort has not only expanded the reach of rugby in Nigeria but also contributed to empowering young female athletes and creating new pathways in the sport.

Her inclusion in the World Rugby programme is expected to further enhance her capacity to contribute meaningfully to the growth of rugby in Nigeria and across the African continent.
