Victory Achakpoekri Opens Outdoor Season with Statement Win at USF Alumni Invitational

Nigerian sprinter Victory Achakpoekri delivered an eye-catching performance to kick off his outdoor campaign, clocking 21.01 seconds (+2.8) to win his heat in the men’s 200m at the USF Alumni Invitational.

The sophomore athlete showed impressive early-season sharpness, powering through his race with confidence to claim top spot and set the tone for what promises to be a competitive outdoor season.

His time, though aided by a +2.8 wind reading, underlines his speed and readiness as he builds momentum following a solid indoor campaign.

Achakpoekri’s performance continues his upward trajectory after a standout 2025 season, where he earned All-Southland Conference Third Team honours in the 400m.

During that campaign, he clocked a personal best of 46.52 seconds in the 400m preliminaries at the conference championships, before going on to secure a podium finish in the final.

The Nigerian, who hails from Hussey College and majors in Computer Science, has steadily developed into a key contributor in both individual sprint events and relay competitions.

His versatility across the 200m and 400m continues to make him one of the athletes to watch within his program.

Having featured in multiple meets earlier this year, including the Tyson Invitational, LSU Twilight, and the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, Achakpoekri appears to be carrying strong form into the outdoor season.

This latest performance not only signals his intent but also positions him as a potential contender for bigger marks in upcoming meets such as the Texas Relays and other major collegiate competitions.

With confidence building and form already evident, Achakpoekri has laid down an early marker—one that suggests he could be set for a breakthrough outdoor season.
