‘We’ll Keep It Simple!’ Ibodeme Outlines Nigeria’s Plan for Nigeria Invitational WT20i Tournament

Head coach of Nigeria’s women’s cricket team, Theophilus Ibodeme, has revealed that the team will adopt a disciplined and practical approach at the upcoming Nigeria Invitational WT20i Tournament 2026 in Lagos.

Ibodeme explained that the coaching crew intends to keep things simple while tailoring strategies to suit each opponent.

“We want to keep it simple and disciplined,” he said.

The coach acknowledged the level of competition expected at the tournament, particularly with stronger sides like South Africa U-19 women’s cricket team and Zimbabwe U-19 women’s cricket team taking part.

“We know the level of opposition we’ll face,” he added.

Despite the challenge, Ibodeme described the competition as an important learning opportunity for the team, especially as they continue to develop.

“It’s a learning curve for us,” he noted.

He also highlighted the positive atmosphere within the squad, stressing that the players are motivated and ready to compete.

“The team is in high spirits,” he said.

Ibodeme emphasized that while development remains a key objective, the team will still aim to compete strongly and play quality cricket throughout the tournament.

He concluded by stating that the experience gained from facing top opposition will be crucial in improving the team’s overall performance and preparing them for future international competitions.
