‘We Won It Fairly!’ Niang Fumes as Senegal Stripped of AFCON Title

Former Senegal international Mame Niang has expressed shock and anger following the decision by the Confederation of African Football to strip the Senegal national team of the AFCON 2025 Title and award it to Morocco national team.

Niang suggested that throughout the tournament, there were signs that decisions were tilted in Morocco’s favour.

“It felt like the organisers wanted Morocco to win,” he said.

The former striker pointed to several controversial moments during the competition, claiming that key decisions consistently went against Senegal.

He also raised concerns about how the Senegal team was treated upon arrival in Rabat ahead of the final.

“Even the way Senegal were treated before the final was not right,” he added.

Niang stressed that the decision to overturn the result has angered fans back home, with many refusing to accept the outcome.

“Senegal will not give up the trophy,” he declared.

According to him, the backlash from supporters reflects the belief that the team earned their victory on the pitch and should not be stripped of it after the fact.

Niang concluded by calling for fairness and transparency in African football, insisting that decisions of such magnitude must be handled carefully to protect the integrity of the game.
