Chinwenze sounded upbeat while weighing his team’s chances heading into the first round in Kebbi State; then credited teamwork, determination and divine grace as factors behind the Nnewi-based team’s success in last year’s championship.
While acknowledging the challenge posed by Kebbi Fishers in the final, the Anambra team’s captain thanked the club’s chairman, Professor Victor Madubuko for motivating the players and leading their celebrations after last year’s success.
Chinweze said, “I thank God who made everything possible for us to win the league last season and this season we will try to retain the title. We decided that we were going back home with that trophy.
“I didn’t do it alone. We did it together. It wasn’t easy for us but with togetherness and hard work we were able to achieve our aims. It’s not easy to be at the top, especially maintaining the momentum.”
He admitted that retaining the cup will not be easy, but quickly added that he is quite optimistic they will win the title again, especially through hard work, unity, motivation and desire to make their families proud.
“I believe we are going to maintain it. Love for the game and determination by the team to make themselves proud is a motivating factor. Everybody is fighting to come back with victory,” Chinweze disclosed.
