“My focus was never really on the time, it was about growth,” Ajayi said.
The sprinter explained that his journey has been built on steady improvement since his freshman year, with each season bringing incremental progress.
“It’s been about getting better every year,” he added.
Ajayi credited both his mental and physical preparation for the breakthrough performance, noting that staying composed under pressure played a crucial role.
“I focused on execution rather than the pressure,” he said.
He revealed that maintaining that mindset helped him stay relaxed and deliver when it mattered most, especially in such a high-stakes race.
The Nigerian star emphasized that the achievement is a reflection of consistent hard work and discipline over time, rather than a one-off moment.
“Everything came together at the right time,” Kanyinsola Ajayi noted.
Ajayi’s record-equalling run places him firmly among the elite sprinters in collegiate athletics, while also boosting Nigeria’s growing reputation in track and field.
He concluded by expressing determination to keep improving and build on the momentum as he targets even greater achievements in future competitions.
