‘Chasing Shadows!’ Legal Expert Slams NFF’s DR Congo Case

Sports law expert Pius Ndubuokwu has heavily criticised the Nigeria Football Federation over its petition against the DR Congo national team, describing the case as lacking substance.

Ndubuokwu argued that based on the information made public by the federation, the entire process appeared weak from the outset.
“The petition has no substance,” he said.

The legal expert suggested that the NFF may have been pursuing a case without strong evidence, questioning the foundation of their claims.
“From what we’ve seen publicly, it looks like they were chasing shadows,” he added.

According to him, unless there is undisclosed documentation that has not been made public, the chances of a favourable outcome—even on appeal—remain extremely slim.

“I don’t foresee any positive outcome from the appeal,” he stated.

Ndubuokwu emphasized that legal battles at the level of FIFA require solid, well-documented evidence, not speculation or weak claims.

He warned that continuing with the appeal could further expose the federation to embarrassment on the global stage.

“Cases like this require strong legal backing,” he noted.

The sports lawyer concluded by advising the NFF to focus on strengthening its structures and ensuring future compliance with regulations, rather than engaging in disputes that are unlikely to succeed.
