Sports247 reports that the former deputy governor of Edo State added that administrators must lead by example and people in leadership positions should show the way for all other sports stakeholders to follow.

Shaibu, who also harped on the need for accountability and deep thinking to bring about progressive reforms in Nigerian sports, buttressed his views while receiving members of Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Correspondents’ Chapel.

They were on a courtesy visit to the NIS’ chief executive officer, who further disclosed that he is taking the bull by the horn to ensure that sports administrators are held accountable for how the federal government’s vision can be achieved.

“We need to give back to sports, not take from it. Sports do not wholly require daily funding from the government. What the government needs to do is put facilities in good condition so that the private sector can come in and thrive.

“I tried it before and it worked in Edo for six years. It can work at the national level,” stressed Shaibu, who also affirmed the need for innovative thinking in sports development, especially among people with administrative duties.
