Liverpool of England’s Nigerian-born youngster, Rio Chima Ngumoha has been rated as the fifth most promising teenage player of the current season in the English Premier League, and cited with bright prospects for the future.
Sports247 gathered that, though the 17-year-old attacker (born August 29th, 2008) has been out of the news in recent days, memory is still fresh with a historic moment that came just four days before his last birthday.
It was August 25th, 2025, when Ngumoha made his EPL debut as an added-time substitute for Cody Gakpo and scored in the 10th minute of stoppage time, securing a 3–2 away win over Newcastle United.
That made him the youngest scorer in Liverpool’s club history and it surpassed Darwin Núñez’s winning goal against Nottingham Forest in March 2024 by a minute to become the club’s farthest late-time game-winning goal in the EPL.
A month later (on September 17th, 2025), when he was just 17 years and 19 days old, Ngumoha made his UEFA Champions League debut in a 3–2 victory over Atlético Madrid, thereby becoming the youngest Liverpool player in the UCL.
He broke the previous record held by Trey Nyoni and, a week later, on September 25th, he signed his first professional contract with Liverpool, thereby cementing him among the most prominent youngsters of the moment in the EPL.
However, those ranked ahead of Ngumoha in positions one to four are Chelsea’s Estevao (first), Max Dowman of Arsenal, Eli Junior Kroupi of Bournemouth and Mateus Mane from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Those who are ranked behind Ngumoha from sixth to tenth are Ayden Heaven of Manchester United, Rayan at Bournemouth, Newcastle United’s Lewis Miley, Myles Lewis-Skelly of Arsenal and Chelsea’s Josh Acheampong.
A citation by 1Football stated about The Reds’ new kid on the block, “Ngumoha provided one of the most dramatic moments of the season when he smashed in a stoppage-time winner against Newcastle in August on his Premier League debut.
“(That was) not long before turning 17. The former Chelsea academy prospect has gained a few more opportunities since and, although yet to add another goal, impresses with his skill and ability to take players on.”
