“No Be Cho Cho Cho!” – NSC DG Olopade Hails Tinubu as D’Tigress Receive Houses and National Honours

The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fulfilling promises made to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, describing it as a clear demonstration of leadership and commitment to sports development.

Speaking after the African champions were presented with national honours certificates and house allocation documents in Abuja, Olopade emphasized that the gesture reflects a new era where government promises to athletes are fulfilled without delay.

“Again, this is another proof that Nigeria truly has the most sports-loving President,” Olopade stated.

“He is transforming Nigerian sports with reforms and putting athletes first. This is not the old system where promises are made and forgotten.”

The presentation ceremony, which took place in Lyon, France, where D’Tigress are currently competing in the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, was led by top government officials including the NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko.

Olopade stressed that the fulfilment of these rewards—promised after the team’s Afrobasket triumph in Côte d’Ivoire—is already having a positive impact on Nigerian sports, boosting athletes’ confidence and reinforcing the idea that excellence will be rewarded.

“This is the Renewed Hope agenda in action,” he added.

“When you do well for your country, you can be assured that a grateful nation is waiting to reward you.”

He also assured that the financial rewards promised to the players are in the final stages of processing and will soon be disbursed, further reinforcing the administration’s commitment to athlete welfare.

The development has been widely welcomed by stakeholders, including the Nigeria Basketball Federation, who described it as a landmark moment for Nigerian sports.

With this move, the Federal Government has signaled a shift in approach—prioritizing timely recognition and support for athletes who bring honour to the nation.

For D’Tigress, the gesture serves not only as a reward for past success but also as motivation to achieve even more on the global stage.
