Olopade Gives Plaudits To D’Tigress, Despite 93-86 Slump Against France

Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) director-general, Honourable Bukola Olopade has rained plaudits on the country’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress for their gallant outing at the FIBA World Cup qualification tournament in Lyon, France.

Sports247 reports that, though D’Tigress lost their penultimate game of the competition against the host country, France, on Sunday, Olopade reckoned that Coach Rena Wakama’s lasses had made Nigerians proud already.

He recalled their opening victory against Colombia and the historic 101-84 blow-out win over Philippines on Saturday, which set a new record of points garnered by the squad, and Olopade praised the players for their resilience.

The NSC’s ‘DG’ also cited the never-give-up spirit and patriotism that D’Tigress always exhibit whenever they represent the country, which he said not only make him proud but are also good examples for younger players to emulate.

Olopade declared gleefully, “I was so proud to see you girls show the resilience Nigerians are known for. Thousands of young girls in Nigeria look up to you girls always.”

Sports247 reports that Olopade’s plaudits came despite D’Tigress’ 93-86 loss to France on Sunday, in a game that had to be put on hold for over 15 minutes with just 49 seconds left, after a French player made two faulty moves.

Before then, France outplayed D’Tigress 29-21 in the first quarter, took the second 28-24, to enter half-time ahead 57-45 and, though Nigeria won the third quarter 21-15, the host stormed back to take the fourth 21-20.
