‘Don’t Start Afresh!’ Sodje Urges NFF to Keep Current Super Eagles Team Together

Former Super Eagles defender Efetobore Sodje has called for continuity in the current national team setup, insisting that Nigeria should build on the progress made at the last Africa Cup of Nations rather than begin a fresh project.

Sodje admitted that many Nigerians were disappointed the team did not go all the way to win the tournament, but he believes the overall performance still provided a strong foundation for the future.

“Even though people are disappointed that Nigeria did not reach the final, it still makes sense for the coach to continue,” Sodje said.

According to the former defender, changing the technical crew now would risk undoing the stability and progress already established within the squad.

He warned that any new coach brought in at this stage would have to start from scratch, which could slow the team’s development.
“Anybody coming in now as a replacement will be starting afresh,” he added.

Sodje stressed that continuity remains one of the key ingredients for success in international football, especially for national teams looking to build momentum ahead of major tournaments.

He argued that the present setup has already shown signs of promise and should be given more time to grow.

“It could set the country back in terms of the progress made so far,” he said.

The former Crewe Alexandra defender’s comments add to the growing calls from several former internationals who have backed stability in the Super Eagles camp.

For Sodje, maintaining the current direction is the best way for Nigeria to consolidate on recent gains and keep moving forward.
