The Nigerian quarter-miler clocked 53.60 seconds to comfortably win her heat and advance to the next round of the competition. Her time stood out as the second-fastest performance across all heats, underlining her strong form and consistency this season.

Akintoye finished ahead of Bec Bennett, who also secured qualification after crossing the line in 53.73 seconds.

Across the heats, the fastest time was posted by Melanie Roland, who ran 53.57 seconds, narrowly edging Akintoye’s mark at the top of the standings.

The performance continues a string of steady outings for the Nigerian athlete, who has shown impressive consistency throughout the indoor campaign.

Her ability to control the race and deliver a strong time without appearing to reach full intensity suggests there may still be more to come as the competition progresses.

With qualification secured, Akintoye will now shift her focus to the next round, where she will aim to maintain her strong momentum and challenge for top honours in the women’s 400m at the championship.
