Sports247 gathered that D’Tigress have a busy schedule to scale through, as they will less than 24 hours later confront the host country, France on Sunday at 7pm and then play their last group game against Germany at 5pm on Tuesday.
Rena Wakama’s squad will aim for a quick return to winning ways, as they lost 77-60 to Asian champions, North Korea, who took the first quarter of Thursday’s game 20-16, drew the second 16-16 and ended ahead 36-32 at half time.
It was Wakama’s 19th game in charge of the Nigerian ladies, with whom she has won 14 fixtures and conceded only her fifth loss on Thursday, hence her desire to regain winning-form on Saturday.
Incidentally, Korea earlier lost 49-76 to Germany in their first game and desperately needed to defeat D’Tigress, who drubbed Columbia 70-37 for a winning start to the competition.
D’Tigress, who have seven AfroBasket titles, including five from consecutive wins, are heading for their third appearance at the FIBA Women’s World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals in 2018.
Although Nigeria has already qualified for the World Cup in Germany, from September 4th to 13th, after winning the 2025 AfroBasket, D’Tigress are facing a tough pre-competition test and the chance to improve their global ranking against top opposition in Villeurbanne, France.
