‘I Still Believe!’ Okpala Keeps Faith as Nigeria Await FIFA Verdict on World Cup Petition

Former Super Eagles assistant coach Sylvanus Okpala has expressed hope that Nigeria could still find a path to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the football community continues to wait for a decision from FIFA regarding the petition submitted by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Nigeria’s qualification hopes have been clouded by uncertainty following the protest filed by the NFF over alleged irregularities involving the DR Congo national football team during the qualifying process.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the case, Okpala revealed that he remains optimistic about Nigeria’s chances, even though the situation has dragged on for weeks without a final ruling.

“I am still hopeful that Nigeria can make it to the World Cup,” Okpala said.

The former international admitted that the delay in FIFA’s verdict has created uncertainty around Nigeria’s preparations, especially with the March international window approaching.

“We are still waiting to see what the final decision will be,” he added.

Okpala noted that while the country continues to await the outcome, the situation has made planning for future fixtures more complicated for the national team.

“The international window is getting closer and the situation is still not clear,” he explained.

Nigeria had initially hoped to secure qualification through their performances on the pitch but now face the possibility of relying on FIFA’s ruling to determine their fate.

Despite the uncertainty, Okpala urged patience among fans and stakeholders as the football authorities review the case.

“We just have to wait for the verdict and see what happens,” he concluded.

The decision from FIFA is expected to determine whether Nigeria can still keep their hopes alive for a place at the 2026 tournament.
