Ngannou made the remarks while addressing comparisons between his career path and that of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, whose legacy remains one of the most celebrated in combat sports history.

The Cameroonian powerhouse emphasized that while legacy is important, financial security for his family must come first.

“Keep the legacy, give me my pay. I can’t pay my kids’ school fees with legacy,” Ngannou said.

The former Ultimate Fighting Championship champion explained that his primary responsibility is to ensure his children are well cared for, rather than chasing public approval.

“Legacy that I know are my kids, how to put food on the table,” he added.

Ngannou further argued that the idea of building a legacy loses meaning if a fighter cannot properly provide for their family.

“When you are unable to cater for the family, what legacy are you building?” he questioned.

Ngannou has previously spoken openly about his difficult upbringing and the importance of financial independence, which played a significant role in his decision to pursue opportunities outside the UFC.

His comments highlight an ongoing debate in professional sports between athletes prioritizing long-term legacy and those choosing financial stability and family security.
