Abeokuta Set to Host Second Edition of Gateway Snooker Tournament

The city of Abeokuta is set to host the second edition of the Gateway Snooker Tournament, scheduled to take place from June 4 to June 7 at the Ijeja Sports Centre.

The competition is being organised by Afolabi Roseline Bolanle in collaboration with the Ogun State Ministry of Sports Development as part of ongoing efforts to expand the popularity of snooker and create a platform for emerging talents.

According to the organisers, the tournament is designed not only to strengthen the sport at the grassroots level but also to attract elite players from within and outside Nigeria, making the event increasingly competitive and internationally appealing.

The Gateway Snooker Tournament has quickly grown in significance within Nigeria’s cue sports community, with the second edition expected to build on the success of the maiden competition.

By bringing together experienced players and upcoming talents, the organisers aim to foster development, encourage participation, and increase awareness of snooker across the country.

Participants will compete for attractive cash rewards, with the tournament champion set to receive ₦2 million, while the runner-up will earn ₦1 million.

The prize structure is expected to further motivate players and raise the standard of competition during the four-day event.

Speaking about the objectives of the tournament, the organisers emphasized their commitment to discovering and nurturing new snooker talents while providing local players the opportunity to compete against top-level opponents.

The collaboration with the Ogun State Ministry of Sports Development also highlights the state government’s growing interest in supporting diverse sporting disciplines beyond mainstream events.
