Nigeria’s women’s basketball national team, D’Tigress’ coach, Rena Wakama has promised that her players will fight for possession on every move against Colombia in their opening match at the global qualifiers in France.

Sports247 reports that the Nigerian squad will tango the South Americans on Wednesday to set in motion their assault on the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualification Tournament in Lyon-Villeurbanne, France.
It promises to be a quickfire campaign for the already qualified Nigerians, who are using the competition as a preparation point for the Mundial itself, and Wakama enthused that her players are fully focused on the challenge ahead.
After their opening clash with Colombia, D’Tigress will lock their horns with Korea on Thursday, following which they will also battle Philippines, Germany and the hosts, France in a space of three days,
Although the schedule ahead of them appears to be pretty stiff and loaded to the hilt, Wakama stressed that her players are up to the task, affirming that they have taken proper steps in terms of preparations before heading to France.
Wakama added, “Our preparations have been intense, and this tournament in Lyon is an important part of that process. It gives us the opportunity to test ourselves against strong competition and evaluate where we are as a team.
“The players have shown great commitment, discipline and hunger. So, I believe we’re moving in the right direction as we prepare for the World Cup in Germany. What’s different this time is the balance we have within the squad.”
The award-winning basketball tactician concluded but pointing out that her current squad is has improved technically, as she has a balance roster of 12 players who have the experience, hunger and zeal necessary for winning major competitions.
“We have a strong core of experienced players who understand the expectations and the culture of D’Tigress, while the younger players bring fresh energy and competitiveness into the team.
“Tactically, we’re evolving. We’re focusing on faster transitions, stronger defence and better chemistry. Representing Nigeria means a lot to every player on this roster, and we want to make our fans proud,” Wakama assured.
