‘Nwabali Still No.1!’ Aiyenugba Insists Nigeria Have Strong Goalkeeping Options

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba has insisted that the Nigeria national football team still have enough quality between the sticks despite the temporary absence of first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Nwabali, who established himself as Nigeria’s number one during recent international competitions, has been unavailable following developments around his club career, raising concerns among fans about the team’s goalkeeping depth.

However, Aiyenugba believes the Super Eagles remain well covered in the position.

“Nigeria still has strong goalkeeping options even without Nwabali,” Aiyenugba said.

The former international pointed out that several Nigerian goalkeepers playing in Europe are capable of stepping in when needed.

One of the players he mentioned is Maduka Okoye, who he believes remains a reliable option for the national team.

“We have players like Maduka Okoye and others doing well abroad who can step in and perform,” he added.

According to Aiyenugba, any goalkeeper invited to the national team must always be ready to represent the country whenever called upon.
“Whoever gets the opportunity must be prepared to give their best for Nigeria,” he explained.

Despite highlighting the available alternatives, Aiyenugba made it clear that Nwabali remains the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper.
“Stanley Nwabali is still the team’s number one goalkeeper,” he stated.

The former shot-stopper suggested that the current situation could give Nwabali time to rest and recover while sorting out his club future.

“He just needs some time to settle his situation and come back stronger,” he said.

Aiyenugba concluded by expressing confidence that Nigeria will continue to maintain stability in goal regardless of who gets the nod.

“The important thing is that Nigeria still has quality goalkeepers ready to step in,” he noted.
