The Ogun State Football Association (OGSFA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Super Eagles Head Coach, Chief Festus Adegboyega Onigbinde, describing his death as a monumental loss to Nigerian football.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, the association, alongside members of the Executive Board, Secretariat staff, coaches, referees, and the entire football family in Ogun State, said it received the news of the revered tactician’s passing with profound sadness.

Majekodunmi described Chief Onigbinde as one of the most respected and influential figures in the history of Nigerian football, whose contributions to the growth and development of the game remain immeasurable.
“Chief Onigbinde was not just a coach; he was a visionary leader and a pillar of Nigerian football whose legacy will remain indelible in the annals of our sporting history,” Majekodunmi said.
Throughout his illustrious career, the late coach distinguished himself as a brilliant tactician and a committed mentor who dedicated his life to nurturing talents and promoting discipline and professionalism within the game.
Majekodunmi noted that Onigbinde’s passion for football and unwavering commitment to excellence helped shape generations of players, coaches, and administrators, leaving a lasting impact on Nigerian football and beyond.
Beyond his technical accomplishments, the Ogun FA Chairman also highlighted the late coach’s humility, wisdom, and fatherly presence within the football community.
“Chief Onigbinde was widely admired for his humility and guidance. He served as a mentor and role model to countless individuals within the football family, and his influence extended far beyond the touchline,” he added.
The association stated that although his passing represents a painful and irreplaceable loss to Nigerian football, his legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched and the milestones he helped the nation achieve.
On behalf of the Ogun State Football Association, Majekodunmi extended heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late coach, the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, the football community in Osun State, and the entire Nigerian football fraternity.
“We pray that Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family, friends, and the entire football community the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss,” the statement concluded
