D’Tigress Land in Lyon for FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have arrived in Lyon, France as they step up preparations for the upcoming FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournament.

The reigning African champions secured their place in the qualifiers following their triumph at the AfroBasket Championship.

With the competition scheduled to take place from March 11 to March 15, the Nigerian side will use the remaining days to fine-tune strategies ahead of the crucial matches.

The qualifying tournament serves as one of the pathways to the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Teams will compete in a round-robin format, with D’Tigress set to face Colombia, South Korea, the Philippines, France and Germany during the competition.

Nigeria will begin their campaign on March 11 against Colombia before taking on South Korea and the Philippines.

They will also face hosts France and Germany as they bid for a place at the global showpiece.

Head coach Rena Wakama will be aiming to guide the five-time African champions to a World Cup ticket with a strong showing in the tournament.

The 12 players named for the qualifiers are Promise Amukamara, Elizabeth Balogun, Blessing Ejiofor, Nicole Enabosi, Rita Igbokwe, Ezinne Kalu, Pallas Kunayi, Victoria Macaulay, Murjanatu Musa, Sarah Ogoke, Amy Okonkwo and Ifunanya Okoro.
