NPFL: Ikorodu City FC’s Bright Ozebagbe Reflects as Oga Boys Slip Further in NPFL Title Race

Ikorodu City FC Coach Bright Ozebagbe has reflected on his side’s recent struggles after the Lagos-based club suffered another setback in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title race.

The Oga Boys have now gone three consecutive matches without a win, a worrying run of form that comes just weeks after they briefly climbed to the top of the NPFL table.

Their latest disappointment came on Matchday 29, when Ikorodu City fell to a 1–0 defeat against Nasarawa United in Lafia, a result that further dents their title ambitions.

The loss sees the Lagos side drop to fifth place on the league table, leaving them two spots outside the continental qualification places.

Reacting after the match, coach Ozebagbe admitted the defeat was frustrating, particularly given the circumstances surrounding the decisive goal.

“It’s not a bad performance. I think we lost concentration towards the end of the game and conceded a foul at the edge of the box,” Ozebagbe said.

“It was disappointing not taking at least a point from the game, especially when you know you are playing an opponent that is so close to you on the log.”

The coach however, expressed confidence that the team can quickly regroup as the season enters a decisive stage.

“We will go back to Lagos and keep working on the weak areas to get better as we prepare for our next game,” he added.

In the Matchday 29 encounter at the Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa United delivered a spirited performance to claim maximum points in front of their home fans.

The decisive moment arrived in the 83rd minute, when defensive midfielder Bright Amadi curled in a superb free-kick to seal a 1–0 victory for the Solid Miners.

The late strike not only secured a crucial win for the hosts but also ended their recent struggles and sparked celebrations among the Lafia supporters.

For Ikorodu City, the result represents another stumbling block in their once-promising title chase, with the Lagos club now facing increased pressure to rediscover winning form in the closing weeks of the campaign.
