Orbih Promises Greater Responsibility After Renewed Support for Badminton Development

President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih, has said the strong support he continues to receive from stakeholders places a greater responsibility on him and his board to deliver more development for the sport in the country.

Orbih made this known while outlining the federation’s future plans for badminton in Nigeria, emphasizing that the confidence shown by stakeholders is a motivation to intensify efforts toward improving the sport at all levels.

“The support we have received comes with a greater responsibility to do more for badminton in Nigeria,” Orbih said.

According to him, the federation has already mapped out a development plan aimed at strengthening various aspects of the sport, including coaching, officiating and grassroots development.

“We have a roadmap that focuses on the holistic development of badminton in the country,” he explained.

Orbih noted that one of the federation’s key priorities is improving the quality of technical officials, coaches and umpires so they can compete and officiate at international competitions.

“We want our coaches, officials and umpires to meet global standards,” he added.

He also revealed that the federation will intensify its search for young talents through age-grade tournaments across the country.

“Grassroots development is very important and we will continue to discover young players through age-grade competitions,” he said.

In addition, Orbih disclosed that the federation plans to organize Level 1 and Level 2 coaching courses in Nigeria as part of efforts to develop more qualified coaches capable of nurturing emerging talents.

“Training more coaches will help us develop the next generation of badminton players,” he stated.

Nigeria has in recent years produced several talented badminton players who have performed well in continental competitions, and Orbih believes the sport has the potential to grow even further with the right investment and development structures.

“With the right programmes and commitment, Nigerian badminton can achieve greater success,” he concluded.
