Madugu Ready for Pressure as Super Falcons Begin WAFCON Preparations

Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has acknowledged that the pressure to defend Nigeria’s continental title is inevitable, but insists he is fully prepared for the challenge.

The Falcons are gearing up for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they will attempt to retain their crown as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.
“There will always be pressure when you are the defending champions,” Madugu said.

The coach explained that expectations are naturally high whenever the Super Falcons compete, given the team’s long history of dominance in African women’s football.
“Nigeria has set a high standard over the years, and we understand what it means to represent the country,” he noted.

As part of their preparations, the Super Falcons squad is scheduled to travel to Cameroon for a two-legged friendly series against the Indomitable Lionesses.
“These matches will help us prepare properly for the tournament,” Madugu added.

The first of the friendly encounters is expected to take place this weekend, with the return fixture following shortly after.

Madugu emphasized that the games will provide an opportunity to evaluate the squad and fine-tune tactical approaches ahead of the tournament.
“Preparation is key. We want to assess the players and improve the team before WAFCON begins,” he explained.

Despite acknowledging the pressure, the coach remains confident in his players’ ability to deliver.
“We are focused and determined. The players understand the responsibility,” he said.

Madugu concluded by reiterating his commitment to the task ahead.
“Pressure is part of the job, and we are ready to embrace it,” he stated.

As the Super Falcons intensify preparations, the Cameroon friendlies are expected to offer a valuable test before their title defence in Morocco.
