Rivers United surged to the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table after a commanding 3–0 victory, against El Kanemi Warriors in a rescheduled NPFL match played in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The result catapulted Rivers United to the top of the table, moving above Rangers International following the conclusion of Matchday 28.
The Port Harcourt-based side delivered a ruthless performance to claim maximum points, with Wisdom Samuel starring in attack.
Samuel opened the scoring early in the 10th minute to set the tone before sealing the win deep into stoppage time with his second goal of the night (90+3’). In between, Chijioke Mbaoma calmly converted a 72nd-minute penalty to put the result beyond doubt.
The emphatic win lifted Rivers United FC to 49 points from 26 matches, pushing them above Rangers International FC, who now sit second on 47 points after 28 games, according to the Matchday 28 standings.
The result further underlined Rivers United’s title credentials as the league enters its decisive phase, with the Pride of Rivers boasting one of the best defensive records in the division and now holding a two points advantage in the race for NPFL glory with two matches at hand.
Meanwhile, the defeat leaves Katsina United FC languishing in mid-table, with consistency continuing to elude the Chanji Boys as the season progresses.
