Wheelchair Basketball President Oluwaseyi Johnson Expresses Confidence Ahead Of Commonwealth Games Qualifiers

The president of Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Oluwaseyi Johnson has expressed confidence that the country’s male and female teams will perform well at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games qualifiers in Angola.

Sports247 reports that Johnson assured that the players will excel considering that they will commence preparations in earnest with the opening of camp this Sunday at Package ‘B’ of Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

He also commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) for its support and assured that, with continued backing and proper planning, Nigeria’s wheelchair basketball officials and players will make the nation proud.

While disclosing that the camp will run from March 8 to 21, Johnson further revealed that 16 players have been invited to the closed camping, heading into the qualifiers in Luanda, Angola from March 22 to 27.

The invited male players are Shittu Musbau, Adetayo Emmanuel Kehinde, Abel Oluwaseun, Akinde Tony, Bailey Oluwasegun, Durowoju Taiwo Babalola, Mohammed Muritala and Rilwan Abubakir.

Those invited to the women’s team are Olabisi Ijigbamigbe, Nofisat Adefala, Amakor Patricia, Aishat Yahaya, Christiana Olowolagba, Grace Nwaozuzu and Folashade Obagbemi; all of who Johnson believes are up to the task.

He added, “We are fully prepared and determined to excel at the 2026 IWBF Africa 3×3 Championship, which serves as the Commonwealth Games qualifiers.

“Our players are committed, and the technical crew is working tirelessly to ensure we put up a strong performance.

“We appreciate the leadership of the National Sports Commission in creating an enabling environment for us to prepare adequately.

“With this level of support and dedication from our athletes, I am confident Nigeria will make the nation proud on the continental stage.”
