NPFL: Azeez Audu Laments Second-Half Lapse in Defeat to Remo Stars

Head coach Azeez Audu has admitted his side lost focus in the second half following Katsina United FC’s defeat to Remo Stars FC in the Nigeria Professional Football League clash in Ikenne.

Speaking after the match, Audu reflected on what he described as a promising first-half display that ultimately failed to translate into a positive result.

“We played well in the first half,” he said. “We were not offensive, but we defended well. They took advantage of that.”

Katsina United maintained a disciplined defensive shape for large spells, frustrating their hosts early on. However, the coach acknowledged that sitting deep for too long proved costly, particularly as the game wore on.

“We can’t defend for the entire minutes,” Audu admitted. “Until we introduced the forwards, we didn’t really threaten enough.”

The tactical shift came late, as Katsina sought to inject urgency and attacking presence, but by then the momentum had swung in favour of Remo Stars.

Audu was candid in his overall assessment, conceding that key mistakes contributed to the loss.

“We will correct those mistakes and forge ahead. We got it all wrong,” he stated.

Despite the setback, the coach emphasized the need to learn quickly and refocus on upcoming fixtures. With the league campaign entering a critical phase, Katsina United will be aiming to strike a better balance between defensive solidity and attacking intent in future matches.

For Audu and his team, the message is clear — strong first-half performances must be sustained over 90 minutes to secure valuable points in the highly competitive Nigerian top flight.
