Okobi took to social media on Saturday night to share her gratitude and relief, posting tearful emojis as she reflected on the journey back to national colours.
“Representing my country again after childbirth is 😭😭… THANK YOU JESUS 🙌🏾🙏🏽,” she wrote. “I am grateful for the journey. Grateful for the grace. Grateful for another chance. I don’t take a single moment for granted. Thank you @nigeriasuperfalcons @thenffofficial for the opportunity again 🙌🏾.”
The experienced midfielder marked her official return in Nigeria’s international friendly against Cameroon on February 28, 2026, at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé.
Although the Super Falcons suffered a late 1–0 defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses, the occasion was significant as it ended Okobi’s three-year absence from the national team.
Currently based in Canada, Okobi had last featured for Nigeria at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations before taking time off following the birth of her first child in September 2024.
Her recall is part of head coach Justine Madugu’s plans to blend experience with emerging talent as Nigeria intensify preparations for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
The emotional return of Okobi has been widely celebrated by fans and teammates, with many praising her resilience and determination to resume her international career after motherhood.
Nigeria and Cameroon are scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in the second leg of the friendly series as the Super Falcons continue their build-up to the continental showpiece.
