Nigerian boxer Ridwan Oyekola, popularly known as Scorpion, has continued his impressive run on Mexican soil after recording another notable victory in the country.
Oyekola defeated Mexican veteran Ricardo Emmanuel Carmona Barragan in a lightweight bout on February 28, 2026, in Cuernavaca, further strengthening his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most consistent boxing exports.

The Nigerian contender delivered a composed and disciplined performance to overcome the experienced Carmona Barragan, who came into the contest with years of ring experience and home support.
Oyekola’s victory lived up to his pre-fight promise of producing a strong showing against a seasoned Mexican opponent.
This latest success follows his December 2025 outing in Mexico, where he stopped Arturo Cario via a third-round technical knockout, underlining his growing comfort and confidence fighting away from home.
With the win, Oyekola continues to build momentum in the lightweight division.
The former WBF International Super Featherweight champion has now amassed valuable experience competing across Mexico, Japan and Nigeria, steadily climbing the rankings with each outing.
Despite Carmona Barragan’s resilience and ring craft, the 40-year-old Mexican was unable to halt the momentum of the younger Nigerian, who appears determined to make Mexico a key chapter in his professional rise.
Oyekola’s performances have continued to draw attention from boxing fans and media alike, with expectations growing around his next move as he targets bigger opportunities on the international stage.
