Nigerian-born former world heavyweight boxing champion, Daniel Dubois has been charged with a reminder that he must not arrive late at the venue of his May 9th title fight with current holder, Fabio Wardley.

Sports247 reports that the wake-up call came from Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, who reminded his ward that a late arrival at the venue of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk accounted for his defeat.
Back then, Dubois reached Wembley Stadium late, after which reports emerged that a party gathering hosted by his father delayed him, and Warren stressed that it must not be repeated when he faces Wardley for the WBO belt.
Warren recalled that Dubois lost the undisputed heavyweight title fight by a fifth-round knockout to Usyk because he arrived at the venue just 90 minutes before he was due to make his ring walk and long after his opponent did.
“When he was late getting there, I was tearing my hair out, what I’ve got left. I can’t be arguing with everyone when he’s two hours away from the biggest fight ever.
“Afterwards, we had a sitdown and said what we had to say. That can’t happen again. The good thing is they’ll be in Manchester so they’ll be staying in a hotel,” Warren told Sky Sports.
Sports247 recalls that Dubois’ father is from Grenada, but also holds French citizenship, and the boxer is of Nigerian descent through his mother, while his younger sister, Caroline Dubois is also a boxer.
He previously held the World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight title (regular version) from 2022 to 2023 and International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt from 2024 to 2025.
His next fight will take place on May 9th at Co-op Live Arena in Manchester on DAZN PPV, under Queensberry Promotions, ahead of which Wardley said it is a voluntary title defence because he just wants to fight Dubois.
