Sports247 reports that Adesanya made the call as a guest at the maiden Goals For Girls Leadership Summit in Surulere, which used football to propel empowerment among female students.

While praising United States-based Goals For Girls executive director, Damilola Ogunbote and the project’s country manager in Nigeria, Chinasa Mandy Ukandu for a job well done, Adesanya added that similar efforts are needed in order sports.

She revealed how she played volleyball to an extent as a student, but lost interest along the way, because the level of encouragement for the sport is low, unlike the widespread attention football enjoys.

“I appreciate the efforts of Goals For Girls, especially regarding the team building and leadership tips that they are giving these students. It’s a wonderful programme.

“I also like how they are using football as a tool to promote the need for unity among teenagers and to encourage the values of self-confidence in female students.

“We need more of these programnes in Lagos State, especially for other sports. I played volleyball as a student and I will like to see someone use it for something like this,” said the graduate of Human Kinectics from Lagos State University.
