Former English midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has described Victor Osimhen as one of the few remaining “natural number nines” in modern football.
Speaking in the aftermath of Osimhen’s UEFA Champions League performance for Galatasaray, Reo-Coker praised the Nigerian striker’s work ethic, movement, and impact beyond goals.

“Osimhen is one of the last proper No. 9s left in the game,” Reo-Coker said. “He plays like a traditional striker but with modern intensity.”
The former West Ham and Aston Villa midfielder highlighted that Osimhen’s value is not limited to his presence on the scoresheet.
“Even when he’s not scoring, his teammates benefit from him. He stretches defenders, presses relentlessly, and creates space,” he explained.
Reo-Coker noted that in an era where many forwards prefer to drift wide or drop deep, Osimhen embraces the physical demands of leading the line.
“He enjoys the battle with centre-backs. That’s rare these days,” he added.
The pundit also dismissed suggestions that playing in Turkey diminishes the striker’s market value.
“His value doesn’t decrease because he plays in Turkey. Quality is quality,” Reo-Coker stressed. “Top clubs know what he brings.”
Osimhen’s combination of pace, aerial strength, and aggressive pressing has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards in recent seasons.
“He’s hardworking, selfless, and always a threat. Coaches love players like that,” Reo-Coker said.
According to the former midfielder, Osimhen’s mentality separates him from many of his peers.
“He plays for the team first. That’s why managers trust him,” he concluded.
As the Champions League progresses, Osimhen’s performances continue to reinforce his reputation as one of football’s most complete centre-forwards.
