Community Secondary School Win Maiden Goal For Girls Leadership Summit

Community Secondary School made history on Tuesday, as they won the maiden Goals For Girls Leadership Summit at Union Bank’s The Stable Sports Centre, Bode Thomas Road, Surulere, Lagos.

Sports247 reports that the school’s team emerged tops with ten points after winning three matches and drew one among a total of five institutions that were in attendance at the event, which combined football drills and instructioons with leadership tips.

The executive director of Goals For Girls Project, Damilola Ogunbote, who is based in the United States of America, said the programme used football as a tool to promote leadership skills and enhance unity among girls in the Surulere/Orile Iganmu axis of Lagos.

She stated delight that 150 girls in total (30 from each of the five schools in attendance) contributed excitedly in all the football drills and team building sessions from 10am to 4pm on Day 1 of the programme, which will end at same venue on Wednesday.

Ogunbote told Sports247 that another set of 150 girls from five different schools will be in attendance for Day 2, with three more glittering trophies to be presented again to first, second and third placed teams in the 8-a-side mini-competition that climaxes all activities.

For Day 1, Community Secondary School went home with the giant first place trophy, while Iponri High School placed second and Coker Secondary School finished third on the log.

The winning school’s sports master, Thomas Idris said the victory was made possible through his basic knowledge of football and some tips he got from one of his students, whose father is a coach.

“I am happy that we won this competition, especially because I am not a coach. I actually teach Civic Education and History in the school, but I watch football and I still play set games once in a while.

“The trick I used is that I listened to one of my players, Aliyah Abdulgafar, whose father is a football coach. She gave me tips on how we can play as a team and mark out the key players of all our opponents.

“The tips Aliyah gave me helped us, and my players did well in all the four matches,” said Idris, who likes the style of Ademola Lookman as well as Caicedo, and is a fan of Chelsea.

In the same vein, Aliyah Abdulgafar said the technical instructions she gave her team were from her father, who is also her coach at Miracle Football Academy of Ijesha Market.
