Onyeka, who joined Coventry in January, delivered an all-action display in midfield and was deservedly named Man of the Match after helping his side secure all three points.
The Nigerian international described the encounter as demanding, noting that West Brom posed a stern test throughout the contest.
“It was a tough game, very intense, but we stayed locked in until the final whistle,” Onyeka said. “Everyone knew what was at stake, and I’m proud of how the team responded.”
The win further strengthened Coventry’s position at the top end of the Championship table, with the club firmly in the race for automatic promotion.
Onyeka, however, cautioned against complacency, insisting that the squad’s attention remains firmly on the next fixture rather than the league standings.
“We are not getting carried away. The focus is to keep going one game at a time,” he added. “Every match is important in this league, and we know we have to keep winning if we want to achieve our goal.”
The midfielder emphasized that consistency and collective effort will be key as the season enters its decisive phase.
According to Onyeka, the team’s mentality has been crucial in grinding out results, especially in high-pressure matches against promotion rivals.
“What matters most is the mindset. We fight for every ball, stay compact, and support each other,” he said. “That’s what will get us over the line.”
Onyeka also highlighted the support he has received since arriving at the club, praising the coaching staff and his teammates for helping him settle quickly.
He believes that the unity within the squad will be vital as Coventry push to secure a return to the Premier League.
“The environment here is positive, and everyone believes in the same objective,” Onyeka concluded. “If we stay focused and disciplined, we give ourselves a very good chance.”
Coventry City will now turn their attention to their next Championship fixture, with Onyeka expected to play a key role as the club continues its bid for automatic promotion.
