Simi Awujo Shines as She Scores in Manchester United’s Women’s FA Cup Exit to Chelsea

Simisola Feyishayo Awujo, the Canadian midfielder of Nigerian descent, delivered a bright performance off the bench for Manchester United Women in their fifth-round Women’s FA Cup clash against Chelsea Women, scoring to pull her side level before extra time in a dramatic 2-1 defeat.

Awujo, 22, who plays in the English Women’s Super League for Manchester United, came on as a substitute and made an immediate impact, finding the net in the 81st minute after Chelsea had taken the lead through Sam Kerr. Her goal forced the contest into extra time during a tightly contested tie at Kingsmeadow.

Despite Awujo’s leveller, Manchester United could not maintain the momentum, with Chelsea’s Naomi Girma scoring a decisive winner in the added period to send the Blues into the quarter-finals of England’s domestic cup competition.

Born in the United States to Nigerian parents from Lagos and Idanre, Awujo has developed her game from a young age, beginning her soccer journey at age seven.

Now a regular contributor for United, her strike against Chelsea highlighted her rising influence and potential despite her team’s eventual elimination.

Manchester United’s Women exit the tournament after a hard-fought match that saw both sides show resilience and quality, but Awujo’s goal remains a memorable moment for the midfielder in what was a notable cup performance.
