Luton Town’s Elijah Adebayo Gains Fresh Support Against Racist Attack

Luton Town FC of England’s Nigerian-born youngster, Elijah Adebayo has received a fresh bolt of support from his club against recent racist attacks against him by some online hackers.

Sports247 reports that the fresh round of support for Adebayo came from the English League One club after one of the bloggers who racially attacked him owned up to the offense.

The offender, 20-year-old Connor Butler, from Pallion, Tyne and Wear, sent an Instagram message to Adebayo in October 2024 after the striker scored in a game against Sunderland.

The case reached a climax in December, when Butler pleaded guilty to a charge of sending offensive information and was fined £200 by magistrates, following which he returned to court this week to receive a ban.

Butler was handed a four-year ban from attending matches involving Luton and the club quickly condemned the racist abuse that was aimed at Adebayo, as well as the club’s other players and staff in recent years.

A Luton spokesperson disclosed, “Elijah has received some form of racial abuse in each of the five years he has been a Luton Town player and has always felt strongly enough to make statements to the police.

“This one thankfully has resulted in a prosecution and punishment that we hope acts as a deterrent to anyone thinking they can send abuse in a direct message, or on any form of social media, and get away with it.

“We stand with Elijah and all victims of discrimination, and will continue to fight for any of our Luton Town family who suffers at the fingertips of these keyboard criminals.”
