Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sports development while speaking at the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
Hamzat described the marathon as a flagship event that reflects Lagos State’s vision of using sports as a tool for youth engagement, healthy living and economic growth.
He praised the organisers for sustaining the race’s standard and for projecting Lagos as a global sporting destination.
“The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has become more than a race; it is a symbol of what Lagos represents, energy, resilience and opportunity,” Hamzat said.
He noted that the marathon aligns with the state’s broader development agenda, particularly in promoting tourism, creating jobs and encouraging an active lifestyle among residents.
“Beyond athletics, this event boosts our economy, showcases Lagos to the world and inspires our young people to see sports as a viable path,” he added.
The Deputy Governor also assured stakeholders of continued government support to ensure the marathon remains a safe, well-organised and internationally respected event.
The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon continues to draw elite athletes and mass participation runners from across the world, reinforcing its place as one of Africa’s premier road races.
