NBA Announces Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Replacement For All Stars’ Games

USA’s National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced a replacement for Milwaukee Bucks’ Nigerian-born star, Giannis Antetokounmpo (Adetokunbo), who has been ruled out of the All-Stars Games due to injury.

Sports247 gathered that the Greece international had initially been listed to captain Team World in this Sunday’s innovative fixtures against two USA squads, but he will no longer be available.

NBA commissioner, Adam Silver has now picked San Antonio Spurs guard, De’Aaron Fox to replace Antetokounmpo, following confirmation by The Bucks that he is still down with a right calf strain complaint.

The Bucks added that ‘The Greek Freak’ suffered the injury on January 23rd, but he is still recovering from the setback, hence their decision to withdraw him from Sunday’s mid-season exhibition games.

While Antetokounmpo, a 10-time All-Star, was originally selected to play for Team World, his replacement, who is now a two-time All-Star, will join one of the two United States teams for the upcoming games.

This means Fox goes into one of the USA squads that will play against Team World in the 12-minute round-robin mini-tournament that will have two matches for each squad and a decisive final between the top two.

The spot that was left vacant by Antetokounmpo in Team World has now been taken by Miami Heat wing, Norman Powell, who has ties to Jamaica, hence his swap from Team USA Stripes to play alongside the international stars.
