Sports247 reports that Lookman netted a goal and provided an assist in Atletico’s 4-0 spanking of their visitors from Barcelona, and Simeone took particular pleasure in celebrating the Super Eagles’ star’s goal on the night.
It was Atleti’s third goal on their glorious night in Madrid, where Los Rojiblancos took another major step closer towards their first piece of silverware in five years, after clinching the La Liga title in 2021.
Although they still have a second leg fixture to play in order to overcome Barca and get a spot in the final against Real Sociedad or Athletic Bilbao, Simeone is still relishing the joy of Thursday’s victory.
Just after Lookman hit target, the Argentine tactician held up three fingers and pointed them at 18-year-old at Yamal, indicating that the youngster had been outdazzled by the 2024 African Footballer of The Year.
The night was an addition to Lookman’s bright start in Madrid, and Simeone showed how delighted he was by the well-struck goal, as the gaffer went running down the touchline to celebrate in frenetic style.
Atleti took one step into the final with Atletico Madrid of Spain winger, Ademola Lookman’s dazzling display against FC Barcelona on Thursday in the Copa del Rey from Antoine Griezmann, Lookman, and Julian Alvarez following an own goal from Eric Garcia, who was sent off with a straight red card in the 85th minute, after his late tackle on Alex Baena.
“I think our people need these parties. It’s clear, we know the rival we’re going to face. We can’t give up. There’s a long way to go until the return leg but today we had a good joy for our people, who deserve it,” Simeone said.
