Speaking with Sports247 during a pre-race interview, Vera revealed that although she is not a professional athlete, she has been running recreationally for close to two years and sees the marathon as a personal challenge and fitness milestone.

“Yeah, this is my first time, my first try,” Vera said. “I’m an athlete but not professionally, just as leisure.”

The 10km runner explained that her motivation to participate is rooted in maintaining long-term health and an active lifestyle.

“I want to be fit always so I can lift my body and live long. I don’t want to get old and start suffering from sickness because I’m not fit, and I don’t want fat,” she noted.

Looking ahead to race day, Vera said her main goal is not competition but completion, while also soaking in the atmosphere and learning from the experience.

“I just want to catch all the fun and learn persistence and patience while running. This is my first time putting such a goal and I want to complete it,” she added.

She also praised the organization and lively atmosphere surrounding the marathon activities, describing the crowd support as a major inspiration.

“It was so lovely. The crowd, the cheering, the unity is so nice. That’s why I decided to give it a try,” Vera said, while commending the organizers for their efforts.

“I want to say a very big thank you. They did a very good job trying to organize this. I know it’s not easy.”

As race day approaches, Vera remains focused on one simple objective.

“I want to reach the final point,” she said confidently.

Vera has registered for the 10km race, which she believes will prepare her for future editions of the Lagos City Marathon, as she looks forward to crossing the finish line alongside friends and fellow runners.
