Sports247 reports that Aghehowa has already been ruled out of action this weekend in the Primera Liga, but he is also facing an anxious wait to determine whether he would recover fully before the Mundial.
The 21-year-old Spain international forward bowed out of his team’s clash with Sporting Lisbon after twice tumbling over in pain, and was later diagnosed with a right knee cruciate ligament injury.
Monday’s Classico clash with Sporting ended in a 1-1 draw, but Aghehowa had to be substituted at halftime, after complaining twice during the first half, and he was subsequently replaced by Deniz Gul.
A report by popular tabloid, Record added: “The exact severity of Samu’s injury will determine his recovery time, which has not yet been announced.
“Even so, there is a real possibility that Samu will miss the rest of the season, and surgery has not been ruled out.
“The Royal Spanish Football Federation has already been informed of the situation, meaning Samu’s dream of playing at the 2026 World Cup could be in jeopardy.”
