Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has revealed plans aimed at upgrading major stadium facilities across Nigeria, as part of efforts to improve sports infrastructure in the country.
Pinnick disclosed that the same contractors responsible for the modern facilities showcased in Morocco during the last Africa Cup of Nations are already in Nigeria assessing selected venues for redevelopment.
“The contractors that delivered the impressive facilities in Morocco are already on ground in Nigeria,” Pinnick said. “They are currently inspecting several stadiums, and the goal is to bring our facilities up to international standards.”
According to him, multiple states have been identified for the proposed projects, which are expected to significantly enhance Nigeria’s ability to host international competitions and improve conditions for athletes.
“We have identified a number of states for these upgrades, and the plan is to have the projects completed within the next 18 months,” he added.
Pinnick stressed that modern infrastructure is critical to the growth of sports in Nigeria, noting that improved stadiums would benefit not just football, but other sporting activities as well.
“Quality infrastructure is non-negotiable if we want to compete globally,” he said. “These upgrades will leave a lasting legacy for sports development in Nigeria.”
The proposed stadium projects are expected to play a key role in boosting Nigeria’s sporting image and attracting more international events to the country.
