The keenly contested encounter was played at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, where the Harmony Boys ended a four-game winless run to record their first victory and first goals of 2026.

Babatunde, a graduate of Barrier FC, recently joined Kwara United on a short-term loan from Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC after impressing during the first round of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

Head coach Suleiman Ashifat handed the midfielder his NPFL debut in what proved to be a pivotal fixture for the home side, and the youngster repaid the faith with a disciplined, energetic and assured performance in midfield.

Babatunde showcased composure, work rate and tactical awareness before being forced off in the 74th minute due to injury, with Alege Muhammed replacing him.

Speaking after the match, Babatunde expressed his delight at making his top-flight debut in Kwara United colours.

“I am very happy to make my NPFL debut with Kwara United. It’s a great feeling, and I thank the coaches and my teammates for the support. I will continue to give my 100 percent whenever I’m called upon and help the team achieve great things this season,” he said.

The impressive debut of Hannafi Babatunde will serve as a major boost for Kwara United as they seek to build momentum in the second half of the NPFL campaign, while also underlining the quality talent emerging from ABS Ilorin FC’s development system.

Following the win, Kwara United moved up to 17th on the NPFL standings with 27 points, behind Remo Stars (18th), Kano Pillars (19th) and bottom-placed Kun Khalifa.

The Harmony Boys, however, still have a game in hand.

Kwara United will next shift focus to their Matchday 25 away fixture against Plateau United in Jos.
