Sports247 reports that Aji Alese is a towering central defender and product of West Ham United’s academy, where he made his professional debut in 2020, but The Hammers soon sold him to Sunderland.

However, the 25-year-old Alese did not find the going smooth with The Black Cats and ended up featuring only in English Premier League 2 fixtures and has played just twice this season, after recovering from a broken leg.

Since his arrival in the North East, Alese got only 46 appearances for Sunderland and the England under-20 international will now feature for Pompey for the remaining part of this season, after signing his loan agreement.

Despite Alese’s torrid days with Sunderland, the club’s sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman rained accolades on the lad, who moves to Fratton Park in a deal that will run until the end of this season.

Speakman declared, “Aji has been incredibly patient and worked diligently to prepare himself for this next opportunity.

“The Championship is a league he’s familiar with, and this move is the ideal step for him in the second half of the season.”

On his part, Portsmouth manager, John Mousinho disclosed: “We are short on centre-backs at the moment and he exactly fits the profile of what we have been looking for.

“He’s a strong defender, who is also comfortable on the ball, and has experience of playing Championship football.”
