Sports247 gathered that, while the international media is awash with reports that the Austria youth international has already agreed a deal with Liverpool, he will not immediately move to Anfield.
One of the reasons for his delayed switch is the need for the Austrian under-17 national team member to develop fully before travelling out of the country where he was born.
Another factor cited in Ndukwe’s delayed trip to Merseyside is that he is yet to receive an international clearance, mostly because he is still considered as an under-aged player, having recently featured at last year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup.
All this comes despite the fact that the 17-year-old centre-back has been with Austria Vienna since the age of seven, progressing through their youth system and impressed at the Cadet Mundial to catch The Reds’ attention.
The Anfield club disclosed in a media statement, “Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle to sign Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Vienna, subject to international clearance.
“The Austria-born defender, who turns 18 in March, will link up with the Reds’ U21 squad in the summer.
“Ndukwe has represented his country at youth level and appeared in all but one of their matches at the 2025 U17 World Cup, where they finished as runners-up.
“A regular for the reserve side of Austria Vienna, he has been part of their senior team’s matchday squad on nine occasions this season.”
