Frank Onyeka May Move To Coventry City In English Championship Before Sunday

Super Eagles’ battling midfielder, Frank Onyeka (The Tank) could be on his way to English lower division side Coventry City any time this week, as he is set to quit his current base at Brentford, Sports247 gathered.

A switch has become inevitable for Onyeka, as he has found the going tough at Brentford since 2024 and had to spend the better part of last season on loan at Augsburg of Germany.

The former FC Ebedie of Sagamu and Midtjylland of Denmark battler has been in the news since late last year about the possibility of a lucrative transfer in the January window.

However, despite his sterling performances during the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Onyeka was not able to attract attention from any club in the English Premier League or Europe.

The box-to-box midfielder, who was born in Asaba, Delta State, may now have to spend the remaining part of this season in the second-tier English Championship, with former EPL campaigners, Coventry.

Onyeka, though, is bound to be in good hands and get familiar tips should he eventually move to Coventry, as they are now coached by former Chelsea midfielder, Frank Lampard.

A report by BBC Sport adds, “Coventry City are making progress in their talks to sign Brentford defensive midfielder Frank Onyeka before Monday’s transfer deadline.

“Frank Lampard’s Coventry sit three points clear at the top of the Championship but have just two wins in their last six league games and have not kept a clean sheet since 26 December.

“Brentford have made the Nigeria international available for transfer after he became frustrated by a lack of first‑team opportunities under Keith Andrews, having experienced similar frustration during Thomas Frank’s tenure.

“The 28‑year‑old is also attracting interest from Sheffield United and is expected to decide his future within the next 24 hours.”
