Fulham Coach Silva Welcomes Super Eagles Calvin Bassey, Chukwueze , Iwobi Back to EPL After Six Weeks

Fulham manager Marco Silva has expressed his delight at the return of Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze and Calvin Bassey following the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The Nigerian internationals were part of the Super Eagles squad that finished third at the tournament, securing the bronze medal after a 4–2 penalty shootout victory over Egypt, following a goalless draw in regulation time.

Iwobi, Chukwueze and Bassey have now rejoined Fulham in training, providing a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brighton at Craven Cottage.

Speaking to FFCtv, Silva admitted that the trio’s absence was felt over the past few weeks, particularly in terms of competition and intensity within the squad.

“We were missing a competitive week. Believe me, in the past eight or nine weeks we have been missing this type of week that we had in preparation for Brighton,” Silva said.

“Senior players around, competitive, loud sessions — it is what we need for each player to reach the level to play in the way we want. It was a good week.”

The Portuguese tactician also highlighted the importance of the Nigerian trio beyond their performances on the pitch, stressing their leadership and presence within the group.

“Three very good players, not just individual qualities. When they are around, off the pitch, you feel that they are around. Definitely, three big players for us,” he added.

Iwobi, Chukwueze and Bassey missed Fulham’s last six Premier League matches due to their AFCON commitments, but they will now be hoping to make an immediate impact as the Cottagers push for a positive result against Brighton.
